2. What is the meaning of the name "Marivellas"?

Answer: A number of theories have been advanced for the origin of the name of the Marivellas. Pierre Lapin in his classic book L'Histoire des Isles de Marivella (Boragora: Singe D'Or 1947) concludes that the islands were named after the region in the Philippines know as "Mariveles" by Spanish sailors who "discovered" the islands in the 1690's.
